I did a lot of research before buying a docking alarm clock for my iPod Touch 3G. Good sound quality was my primary concern, but I also liked the choice of alarm options -- besides the iPod itself, there is the radio, nature sounds, and a beeping sound.
I got the good sound quality, no problem at all there.
But there are a few quirks, some of which were mentioned in other reviews. The clock light settings are not adjustable, and are too bright for a dark room, even at the lowest setting. I had to turn this off.
I can't tell whether my iPod is charging or not. The screen display goes off soon after docking, and it stays dark even when the unit is playing. I don't know whether that's normal or not.
It doesn't seem to remember volume settings if you remove the iPod. Each time I dock it, I have to re-adjust the volume so as not to get blasted out of bed.
Conclusion: Good value for money, and easy to set up. If it weren't for those quirks I mentioned, it would be a 5-star review.

The biggest thing I was looking for was an alarm clock that did not have a bright display. Unfortunately this does and I'm stuck with it. Even dimmed, it lights up the room at night so I need to turn the display off...but of course then I cant see the time. Otherwise, its just OK. It works with my iPhone 3Gs (you just have to ignore the message about turning the phone on in airplane mode). The alarm is tricky and annoying to set, but I'll probably get used to it. The sound is fine for what I needed.

This does not work with the IPhone 3GS if you actually want to use the phone while its docked. I'm sorry but that airplane mode is crap you cant receive calls or do much of anything else. I use my phone for everything, alarm clock, sleep sounds, email, TXT, surfing the web, music, GPS, YouTube, Banking and so many other things too many to list. To have the phone disabled while docked means it doesn't work as intended. This clock radio should get the alarm info from the phone so that should the power go out the phone will still wake you up. The phone should still be able to receive and send calls, text, MMS or anything else you can think of while docked but no its in airplane mode, what a crock. Dont waste your money just go buy an AC adapter for your USB cord and a 5 dollar clock/radio you'll have a much better experience.

This works great, just as one could hope for, the only thing I don't like is you cannot adjust the volume for the alarm. It's always full blast, It about gives me a heart attack when I wake up when it goes off, so I cannot use it for the soul purpose I intended when I bought it.

I spent several months searching for a clock/radio compatible with the iPhone 3G that was under $100, and came up with this. I have never heard of Satechi, and don't know anyone that has, so I was a little worried about ordering this.
When it arrived I unpacked it and was quite impressed by the build quality. It is a sturdy box shape with two large dials on top and two rows of buttons in between. It came with several inserts for the different generations of iPods, unfortunately there was no insert for iPhone/iTouch.
Pros:
1. Compatible with iPhone 3G. Charges and plays. No interference has been experienced yet.
2. Packed with features:
- Two alarms
- Alarm can be radio, iPod, or nature sounds
- Nap alarm - 10-60 minute timer so you can nap without resetting your alarm times
- Sleep timer - fall asleep to you music and it will power itself down
- 3 light settings for the LED front - High, Low, and off
- Full feature remote - Can access iPod/iPhone controls and menus with the remote
3. And, finally, above average sound quality
Cons:
1. No insert for iTouch/iPhone - Not a big deal for me because my iPhone is in a silicone case, so there is not a lot of movement
2. Sound quality at low volumes - While I listed above average sound quality as a "pro", it has decent sound quality when it is turned up. At lower volume, the highs seemed to be drowned out.
Overall, I would recommend this product to anyone. Based on amazon and ebay reviews, the SP2 is a far superior product to the similar SP1.
